THE HISTORY OF GROUP RATING

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) permits employers with better-than-average claim histories to join together through a sponsoring organization for the purpose of being rated as a larger group. By participating in group rating, employers enjoy a much lower premium than could be attained on their own. Historically, groups administered by CompManagement, Inc. have realized savings between 15% and the BWC maximum discount allowed. No two group rating plans offer the exact same savings! The actual savings are dependent upon the type of business, final loss figures, total enrollment, and reported payroll of participating members. Premiums are still payable to the BWC; however, the rate charged by the BWC will be a lower group rate.

GROUP RATING TIMELINE - Private Employer

March - December
Employer completes and submits AC-3 (Temporary Authorization to Review Information Form).

July - August
New rates are released by OBWC. CompManagement reviews and performs analysis.

September - January
CompManagement mails analysis results with enrollment application.

Last Business Day in February
BWC’s deadline to submit all group enrollment applications. Applications must be received in our office prior to this date to be included on the group roster.

July 1
New group rate is effective. Reduced premiums are payable in February and August of the following calendar year.

GROUP RATING TIMELINE - Public Employer

April - June

Last Business Day in August
