To encourage job creation, the Grow Ohio incentive program provides new employers in the state with the option of participating in a Group Rating program or an automatic 25-percent discount on their workers’ compensation premium.
Previously, new employers in the state would have to wait until the next policy period to participate in a group experience rating program therefore losing the ability to save immediately on workers’ compensation premiums on their first day of coverage.
Grow Ohio gives your business the option to apply for group rating immediately and, upon acceptance, receive a premium discount of up to 53 percent, which is the current maximum allowable group discount (for private employers). If interested in joining a group, an employer must select that option within 30 days of the date the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) assigns a policy number.
All eligible new employers that do not select to participate in a group experience rating program will receive a 25-percent discount on their workers’ compensation premiums. Employers only paying the $50 administrative fee will NOT receive a discount.
For private employers, the 25-percent discount will be applied for the payroll period in which your coverage becomes effective and the next four consecutive payroll periods as long as your company maintains eligibility. For public employer taxing districts, the 25-percent discount will be applied for the partial year that coverage becomes active, and then the next two consecutive years.
